Pip the mouse woke up with a wiggle in his whiskers and a tap in his toes. Today felt like a special day. He looked out of his little round window at the garden. The sun was shining, and the flowers were dancing in the breeze. "It’s a perfect day for a parade!" Pip chirped. But when he looked left and right, the garden path was empty. There was no band, no banners, and no marching.

Pip’s ears drooped just a little. "Oh," he sighed. "I really wanted to see a parade." Then, his nose twitched. Wiggle, wiggle. An idea popped into his head like a bright balloon! "If there isn't a parade," Pip announced to his room, "I will make my own parade!"

He scampered to his toy chest. Rummage, rummage, crash! "Aha!" Pip pulled out his favorite little tin drum. He found two shiny silver spoons to use as drumsticks. Rat-a-tat-tat! "Perfect!" he squeaked. But a parade needed decorations. He tied a long, shimmering rainbow ribbon to the end of his tail. Now he looked like a real parade leader!

Pip marched out onto the garden path. Knees high! Tail swishing! Rat-a-tat-tat! Rat-a-tat-tat! "Here comes the Big Garden Parade!" he called out. Freddie the Frog was sitting on a lily pad nearby. Plop! Freddie jumped out to see what the noise was. "Toot-toot!" croaked Freddie, mimicking a trumpet. "That looks fun, Pip! Can I join?"

"Of course!" beamed Pip. "A parade needs a horn section!" Freddie puffed up his green throat and let out a mighty "GROAK-TOOT!" right on beat with Pip’s drum. They marched together past the rose bushes. Rat-a-tat! GROAK! Rat-a-tat! GROAK!

Suddenly, a nose poked out from the carrots. It was Rosie the Rabbit. She was munching on a leafy green snack. Crunch, crunch, gulp. "Where are you two going with so much noise?" she asked, twitching her ears. "We are having a parade!" said Pip. "Do you want to come?"

"Oh yes! I love parades!" Rosie cheered. She didn't have a drum or a trumpet, but she had big, thumping feet. Thump-thump-hop! Thump-thump-hop! She found a crown of daisies and placed it on her head. "I will be the Parade Dancer!" she declared.

Now the parade was getting delightfully loud. Rat-a-tat! GROAK! Thump-hop! They marched past the old oak tree. Oliver Owl looked down with one eye open. "Hoo-hoo," he hooted softly. He didn't want to march, but he began to flap his wings to the beat. Whoosh, whoosh. It sounded just like a shaker!

Down the hill they went! More friends came running. Benny the Beetle clicked his shell click-clack! The bluebirds whistled a happy tune from the branches above. Even the grumpy majestic Snail tried to slide a little faster to keep up.

They marched all around the garden, making music and laughing. Pip looked back at the long line of his friends. His little heart felt so big, it almost burst with happiness. He realized that he hadn't just found a parade; he had made one.

The sun began to set, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink—just like Pip's ribbon. The band slowed down. Rat...a...tat. "Phew," puffed Pip. "That was a very big parade." They all sat down in the soft grass, tired but happy.

"That was the best parade ever," said Freddie. "Because we did it together," added Rosie. Pip smiled as he untied his ribbon. "Yes," he whispered. "The best parade is the one you share with friends." And with a heart full of music, Pip the mouse fell fast asleep.
