The moon was rising over the forest, but Barnaby Bear wasn't sleepy yet. He was wearing his favorite red-and-white striped pajamas. 'It's time for the Pajama Parade!' he announced. He marched out of his cave. Thump, thump, thump.
He marched to the rabbit burrow. 'Join the parade!' Barnaby whispered loudly. The bunnies hopped out, wearing long sleeping caps. They joined the line behind Barnaby. Thump, thump, hop, hop.
Next, they marched to the stream. Mortimer Mouse was there in his tiny slippers. 'Room for one more?' Mortimer squeaked. He scurried to the back of the line. Thump, thump, hop, hop, pitter-patter.
The parade reached the clearing. Barnaby stopped. 'Okay parade, first step: Brush Teeth!' Everyone pretended to hold a toothbrush. Swish, swish, swish. They brushed up and down. Their imaginary teeth were sparkling clean.
'Next step,' cheered Barnaby, 'Stretches!' They all reached high to touch the moon. Streeeetch. Then they touched their toes. Bendddd. Everyone let out a big, happy yawn. Yaaaaawn.
'Now,' whispered Barnaby, 'The parade must move... very... slowly.' The marching changed. Instead of thumping, they tip-toed. Tip-toe, tip-toe, shhh, shhh. The forest was silent.
One by one, the marchers dropped out. The bunnies hopped into a pile of leaves. Mortimer curled up in a mossy root. Even Barnaby's legs felt like heavy logs. He sat down under the Great Oak Tree.
'Parade... dismissed,' Barnaby mumbled. He curled into a fuzzy ball. His stripes rose and fell with his breathing. The Pajama Parade had reached its final destination: Dreamland.
