Read Along
The sun waved goodbye, painting the sky purple and blue. It was time for the day to rest. Slowly, quietly, the Sleepy Moon peeked over the hills. "Hello, Night," whispered the Moon. She was round and bright, like a glowing pearl.
The Sleepy Moon climbed higher into the velvet sky. She looked down at the tall, green trees. The birds were tucking their heads under their wings. "Goodnight, birds," whispered the Moon. Hush, hush. The leaves rustled a gentle lullaby.
The Sleepy Moon floated over the farm. The cows were laying down in the soft hay. Moooo... they yawned. The little chicks snuggled close to their mama hen. "Goodnight, farm friends," whispered the Moon. "Sleep tight."
Next, the Sleepy Moon drifted over the wide, dark ocean. The waves lapped gently against the little boats. Rock, rock, rock. The boats bobbed up and down. "Goodnight, little boats," whispered the Moon. "Rest your sails."
The Sleepy Moon saw a house with a window. Inside, a little child was climbing into bed. The blanket was soft and warm. "Goodnight, toes," whispered the Moon. "Goodnight, nose."
The Sleepy Moon shone her soft, silver light through the window. It made a night-light on the floor. "I am watching over you," she hummed. "I will stay awake So you can dream."
The world grew very, very quiet. The crickets sang a slow song. Chirp... chirp... The wind blew a kiss to the stars. Whoosh.
The Sleepy Moon felt a yawn coming on, too. It was a big, round yawn. But she kept her eyes open just a little bit, smiling down at the sleeping world.
Everything was still. Everything was safe. Everything was wrapped in the Moonβs silver hug.
"Sweet dreams, little one," whispered the Sleepy Moon. And the whole world fell fast asleep.
