Read Along
Deep beneath the rolling waves, where the water was a calm, dark blue, lived Finnegan. Finnegan was a little yellow submarine with a very bubbly engine. Bub-bub-bub, it purred softly. Today had been a busy day of exploring, but now the ocean was getting quiet.
Finnegan turned on his gentle headlight. Click. A soft beam of light stretched out into the water. 'Time to say goodnight,' Finnegan hummed. He drifted slowly toward the Coral Canyon. The colorful corals were already closing up their petals for sleep.
He passed a family of seahorses. They had wrapped their tails around the tall seagrass so they wouldn't float away while they dreamed. Rock, rock, sway, sway. The water moved them gently, like a cradle. 'Goodnight, seahorses,' whispered Finnegan.
Further down, Finnegan met the Jellyfish Sisters. They were glowing with a soft pink light. Pulse... and relax. Pulse... and relax. They looked like breathing umbrellas. Finnegan slowed his engine to match their rhythm. Bub... bub... bub...
Suddenly, a giant shadow moved above him. It was Wally the Whale. Wally moved so slowly he hardly made a ripple. 'Hoooooom,' Wally sang a low, sleepy note. It vibrated right through Finnegan's metal shell. It felt like a warm hug.
Finnegan followed Wally to the sandy sea floor. A little crab was tucking himself under a blanket of sand. Scritch, scratch, snuggle. 'Goodnight, crab,' Finnegan bubbled softly.
Finnegan yawed a big mechanical yawn. His little hatch felt heavy. He found a soft patch of moss near the old anchor. He powered down his engine. Whirrrr... click. Silence peacefully filled the ocean.
The bubbles stopped rising. The only movement was the gentle sway of the sea. Rocking back and forth. Finnegan the Sleepy Submarine closed his window-eyes and drifted into deep, blue dreams.
