The sun dipped below the hills, painting the sky in shades of lavender and gold. Lucy the lamb, with her soft white wool and a tiny blue scarf, skipped along the edge of the Whispering Glade.

But a shadow fell across the path. Gruff the goat, with his rough gray coat and sharp horns, stomped in front of her. 'You can't come here, fluffy,' he sneered, blocking the way.

Lucy's heart thumped like a little drum. She wanted to run away, but she remembered what her mama said: 'Your voice is like a gentle stream; it can carve through stone.'

She took a deep breath and said softly, 'Gruff, I just want to see the fireflies. They're so beautiful.' Her voice was calm, like the evening breeze.

Gruff blinked. No one had ever answered him with kindness before. He felt a strange warmth in his chest, like a tiny seed sprouting.

'Why are you so mean?' Lucy asked gently. Gruff looked down. 'Because... I'm scared of the dark,' he whispered. 'And I thought if I was tough, no one would know.'

Lucy smiled. 'Everyone is scared sometimes. But being brave doesn't mean being loud. It means sharing your fears with a friend.' She offered her scarf to Gruff.

Gruff took the scarf and wrapped it around his neck. It was soft and warm. 'Thank you,' he mumbled. And for the first time, he smiled.

Together, they watched the fireflies fill the glade like tiny stars. Lucy knew that kindness was the strongest magic of all.

As the moon rose high, Lucy yawned. 'Time for sleep,' she whispered. Gruff nodded, and they both felt safe and warm, knowing that even the darkest night ends with a gentle dawn.
